Ray Erskine Parker Jr. (born on May 1, 1954 in Detroit) is an American guitarist, songwriter, producer and recording artist best known for writing the theme song to the motion picture Ghostbusters.

He's 53!

In the mid-1970s he was a sideman in Barry White's "Love Unlimited Orchestra", before creating Raydio, an R&B group, in 1977, with Vincent Bohnam, Jerry Knight, and Arnell Carmichael. Parker appeared briefly in the 1974 film "Uptown Saturday Night" as a guitar player. Parker also wrote songs and did session work for Rufus and Chaka Khan, Stevie Wonder, Leon Haywood, Temptations, The Spinners, Boz Scaggs, Rhythm Heritage, and Gladys Knight and the Pips.

Parker was accused of plagiarizing the melody from Huey Lewis & the News song "I Want A New Drug" for his 1984 #1 hit theme to Ghostbusters, released only six months after Lewis' hit reached #6 in the Billboard Hot 100. This ended with Lewis suing Parker, and the pair settled out of court in 1995.

This will be fun...

They returned to court once again in 2001, as Parker sued Lewis for breaching a confidentiality agreement forming part of their original out of court settlement which prohibited either side from speaking about it publicly. Lewis had revealed in a VH1 Behind The Music special that Parker had paid a financial settlement as part of the original agreement.

Marianne Pearl, the wife of the slain Wall Street Journal journalist Daniel Pearl, and Angelina Jolie (she plays her in the upcoming film A Mighty Heart) sat down with Glamour editor-in-chief Cindi Leive for an interview at Angelina’s home. Here are some fun excerpts:

CINDI LEIVE: So Mariane, you started to tell me the story of how you guys initially met, which to my surprise had absolutely nothing to do with A Mighty Heart.

MARIANE PEARL: One day a few years ago, I was alone in New York with Adam, still having a rough time [after Danny’s death]. I read an interview with Angie in a magazine, about her and Maddox and her life as a single mom. And I thought, this woman could be my friend…. I’d never experienced anything like that before in my life. It was something in her tone, in the answers that she gave. I felt also that Maddox and Adam [then both about three] could be good friends. So I sent her a note saying, do you want to have a playdate?

ANGELINA JOLIE: And I, on the other side of it, had been aware of you through the time that everything went down. I remember being amazed by your courage and your grace…. And when I got the note, I was thrilled. Later I realized that Mariane and I are the two worst people to plan a playdate in the history of playdates.

CL: Why?

AJ: Because she hates the phone as much as I do. So it almost didn’t happen! But when it finally did, I remember being really nervous, thinking, she’s such an intelligent European woman—what are we going to do together? So we went to this serious, European, existential play—it seemed like the right thing [and it was supposed to be OK for kids]. But Adam and Mad got antsy, and finally halfway through, to each other’s relief, we were both like, do you want to get out of here? And we ran out and went back to Mariane’s place….

MP: We cooked pasta; it was actually good. And then we started talking about changing the world…

AJ: …and about all the things we were passionate about. Her instincts were right—we did have so much in common. And all the kids are great friends now. Zahara is madly in love with Adam.

Ellen DeGeneres Doing Next Week Shows from Hospital Bed!

Ellen DeGeneres hurt her back over the weekend -- and it's so bad that she's doing this week's shows from a hospital bed!

The bed will be placed center stage on Ellen's set. She'll lob questions at Ryan Seacrest and Lindsay Lohan from a supine position. Seacrest will appear on tomorrow's show and Lindsay will talk to the bed on Wednesday.

Ellen was scheduled to do a show on a Delta Airlines 767 later in the week. It was a big deal that was sponsored by American Express. But we're told that on doctor's orders, Ellen can't travel, so the trip will be rescheduled.

Ellen was also forced to cancel on a charity event Saturday in Chicago for the Make A Wish Foundation.

It's unclear how Ellen screwed up her back. She'll say on the air. By the way, her doctors will give the audience their official diagnosis.

I love how she makes light of any given situation. I love you Ellen!

Nicole Richie Status: DIVA

Nicole Richie is famous for doing nothing except being a party girl, but she can add diva to her resume after last night's MTV Australia Video Music Awards.

Sources told "Confidential" that Richie was the only presenter who refused to take part in the dress rehearsal, not leaving her dressing room all day.

Not even boyfriend Joel Madden, from Good Charlotte, could cajole her outside.

Richie is being paid big bucks in appearances fees, so organizers expected her to do the job properly.

Other bigger names such as Pink and host Fergie took part in the rehearsal without complaint.

We also hear that her management had diva demands regarding her dressing room -- unlike the slight star, her room had to be large.

Richie's trip hasn't been a happy one, she upset fans when she arrived at Sydney Airport on Saturday, refusing to sign autographs for many who had waited up to 48 hours for a glimpse of their idol.

Another presenter who we hear has been difficult is Kristin Cavalleri .

Er, Kristin who?

She is a B-grade reality television and soap star in the US, but sources tell us she has refused to do any publicity and is also being a princess.

Her 15 minutes of fame would be limited if that attitude continued, a source said.

Well, at least these 2 divas could get it together for this photo op!

1983 : "Beat It" Tops Charts

Michael Jackson's "Beat It" rises to No. 1 on the Billboard charts, just a week after "Billie Jean" ended its seven-week run at the top. Jackson became the first artist in the 1980s to score two hits in the top five at the same time. Both songs came from Jackson's album Thriller, which sold more than 40 million copies and still ranks as the bestselling album of all time. The album spent 37 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard's album chart and achieved seven Top 10 singles.

Kirsten Caroline Dunst (born April 30, 1982) is a Golden Globe-nominated American actress, best known for her roles in Interview with the Vampire, The Virgin Suicides, Marie Antoinette, and Bring It On, as well as Mary Jane Watson in the Spider-Man film series.


She's 25!

Dunst was born in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, to Inez and Klaus Dunst, who are separated. Her father, a German medical services executive from Hamburg, remained in New Jersey but now lives in Los Angeles, California. Her mother, a Swedish former art gallery owner, moved to California. Dunst has a younger brother, Christian.

Dunst attended the Ranney School in New Jersey, but graduated in 2000 from Notre Dame High School in the Sherman Oaks neighborhood of Los Angeles, California.

Dunst got her start as a child fashion model at the age of three in television commercials. She was signed with Ford Models and Elite Model Management. In a 1988 episode of Saturday Night Live, she played the role of President George H. W. Bush's granddaughter, in a sketch in which Dana Carvey acted as President Bush. In 1989, Dunst moved to the big screen with New York Stories. Soon after, she landed a small part in The Bonfire of the Vanities as Tom Hanks's daughter. Dunst also did the voice of Kiki in the 1989 anime film Kiki's Delivery Service. In 1993, Dunst played Hedril in the seventh season episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation called "Dark Page". She also had a recurring role as a child prostitute, Charlie Chiemingo, on ER.

Her feature film breakthrough came in Interview with the Vampire, a 1994 film based on Anne Rice's novel. The movie featured a scene in which Dunst, then-aged eleven, received her first kiss from Brad Pitt, who was 29. Her performance earned her a Golden Globe Award nomination, the MTV Award for Best Breakthrough Performance and the Saturn Award for Best Young Actress. In 1995 (and again in 2002), she was named one of People magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People.

Personal Life:

After briefly dating her longtime friend, and playwright, Jeff Smeenge, she started dating actor Jake Gyllenhaal in September 2002, after meeting him through his sister, Maggie Gyllenhaal (her Mona Lisa Smile co-star). They officially broke up in July 2004 but remained off and on until December 2005. They adopted a German Shepherd dog from a Los Angeles dog shelter and named him Atticus, after Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird. She was recently seen with British rocker Johnny Borrell at the South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas. Borrell, the frontman of Razorlight, commented on their relationship, saying, "I'm not hiding anything. We met in Los Angeles. We were hanging out at South by Southwest and we've been hanging out ever since."

According to The Sun, Dunst has said that she occasionally smokes marijuana. Dunst claims, "I've never been a major smoker, but I think America's view on weed is ridiculous. I mean, are you kidding me? If everyone smoked weed, the world would be a better place."

This was a well staged "homecoming" to LAX.

Victoria Beckham has arrived in LA to sign the papers
and wrap up all the details on their gorgeous Italian-style Villa.

The house has 6 bedrooms , 9 bathrooms and a tiny pool. There is 13,149 square feet of lusciousness for the Beckham's to get cozy in. The family is expected to move in mid-July, around the same time that Victoria's six-part reality series appears on NBC. Which, BTW, there are rumors circulating that the series will be quite the bore-fest.

Peter Andre Has Meningitis

According to The Sun, "Sick pop star Peter Andre has been told he has MENINGITIS — after days of agonising uncertainty.

Glamour girl Jordan’s husband was ill for two weeks before being diagnosed with the serious brain bug.

The pregnant model, 28, was spotted yesterday slipping through a hospital’s staff entrance as she dashed to Peter’s bedside.

She has been visiting him daily since he was admitted last weekend.

The Sun revealed yesterday that doctors had given Peter, 34, a brain scan — but it failed to find a problem.

Eventually a lumbar puncture at East Surrey Hospital in Redhill, showed he had viral meningitis. It is less dangerous than bacterial meningitis, which can kill.

A close friend of the couple said: “Jordan has been sick with worry, but at least now they know what it is. Peter fell ill in the US, where they were doing promotion work for their fly-on-the-wall TV show. He flew home and took to his bed. On Saturday he collapsed and Jordan rang 999.

“Peter was weak as a kitten and was put on a drip. He felt better on Sunday and left, but relapsed and had to go back. He should be home in four or five days.”

Meningitis is an infection in fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord.

It is spread by sneezing, coughing or kissing — so Jordan is not allowed to touch Peter. The busty star, who has a son by Peter and another by footballer Dwight Yorke, is expecting her third child.

The NHS hospital said the singer’s condition was stable. Peter, whose hits include Mysterious Girl, met Jordan on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here. They wed in 2005.

SUN Doctor Carol Cooper said: “Viral meningitis is pretty unpleasant. There’s no specific treatment. Painkillers, fluids and rest are needed.

“Peter must take it very easy. Extreme tiredness, headaches and depression can continue for weeks.”

2007 MTV Australian Music Awards

30 Seconds to Mars ‘The Kill (Bury Me)’ was named Video of the Year ahead of rivals including Australian band Wolfmother’s ‘Joker and the Thief’ and Christina Aguilera’s ‘Ain’t No Other Man.’

Justin Timberlake, who had led the nominations list, walked away with only one award - Best Hook Up, for his collaboration with music producer Timbaland on ‘SexyBack.’

And finally, the last laugh went to Snoop Dogg, who was refused admission to Australia on character grounds last week. His ‘That’s That’ duo with R Kelly was named Best Hip Hop Video.

The show’s co-hosts Good Charlotte and Fergie were well chosen by producers as they were clearly favourites with MTV viewers, who decided the winners for most of last night’s show. Fergie picked up Sexiest Video for ‘Fergalicious'.
